Most frequent questions are about batteries, How Long? How Far?, and How Much?
1 Batteries, how long do they last? Batteries like to be looked after, kept charged and a rule of thumb is “use every day, charge every night” Overnight should be sufficient for a charge, do not leave on charge for more than 12-16 hours given normal circumstances. If you feel it needs more, because they are not lasting ,contact us Batteries do NOT like cold and damp, or being left in a discharged state so maintain a good charging regime. Your scooter or chair is important to your mobility and therefore your social life, your wellbeing, your independence. Batteries are the most expensive part of your scooter or chair. House your scooter or powered wheelchair in a garage or a shed, leaving it outside overnight in the Winter is a guaranteed way of minimising the life of your batteries, this cannot be stressed too strongly. Care of your batteries can make a difference in lifetime between 6 months and 5 years. The state of your batteries is checked when you have your machine serviced. The same basic rules apply to your mobility equipment as to your car, look after it because if you don’t , you will not get the best out of it. A regular service will help because our technician will check everything thoroughly. 2 How far on a full charge? Batteries , put simply, store energy. Moving you on your scooter or Chair takes energy , and the larger the person, the more energy it takes. This means that a larger person will not go as far as a smaller person. If you think about pushing a person in a wheelchair, and the factors that use more “push” like weight , going uphill, rough surfaces and lots of stopping and starting, are all contributors. The suppliers of all mobility equipment provide a guide as to range depending on equipment, because different models have different sizes of batteries. Remember also your tyres, as with your car they make a difference, again a feature of your service check. Underinflated tyres will reduce efficiency. Allow for the fact that the guide of say, 40km can only ever be that because of the unknowns like weight, hills type of road etc It may be advisable to allow say 20% less for these factors, in any case distance even of 20% less is normally more than enough. What you want to do , and where you want to go should be discussed during your selection of model with our consultant. It is important to buy the model which does what you need it to , to achieve the things you want to do. 3 How Much do Batteries Cost? Varies on the model, because different models have different size batteries. A benefit for our customers is that there is a 10% reduction because you are our customer. |
